Have you ever wondered how airlines calculate ticket prices or why some times it cost more to fly 500 miles then to fly half way around the world. Clearly it has got nothing to do with the length of the journey. So what does it have to do with? We did some research and here is what we found.

Airlines set their ticket prices based on a number of different criteria. One of the primary sources the airlines use to set ticket prices is based on the popularity of the destination. For example, you will find the ticket price to Orlando, Florida; will not fluctuate from month to month and or from airline to airline.

It also depends on demand to a certain destination, ticket prices to Europe in the summer will always cost more then then tickets in the winter because it’s high season and people are willing to pay top dollars for that ticket. While travel to Iceland in the winter is minimal, airlines will reduce the price of a ticket as much as possible.

A ticket price also has to do with the competition. If a competing airline offers a price to a popular location like Las Vegas, at a discount rate, the other airlines must match that ticket price, or lose the travelers to that airline. When an airline sets a ticket price based on a competitor’s price of a ticket, the airline then has to adjust and perhaps change the price of the ticket after the current promotion is over in order to meet their profit margins.

It is also required by law that an airline keep a certain amount of sale tickets. According to airline executives, the percentage is 7 to 10 percent of each flight. These fares usually appear online in the mid-night hours, 2-4 am.

There are a lot of variables that are out of the control of the airlines. The price of gas has a major factor in the setting of ticket prices, as well as the estimated amount of travelers to a certain destination. An airline that will fly with at 60% passenger capacity will need to adjust ticket prices to the point that the airline can break even. An airline that is operating at a full capacity of a flight, will often times discount that particular ticket price to achieve close to 100% capacity on that particular flight.

As the airline industry grew, there was a need to make the process of selling, and storing information more efficient. For this the airlines invented the GDS (global distribution system). Today there is five global GDS systems and with each system there is a unique algorithm that calculates ticket prices. It has become so complicated over the years, that no one has a clue how the systems calculate ticket prices and that why it sometimes cost less to fly from New York to Sydney then to fly from New York to Boston.

With world travel the very first thing you can do to reduce your stress levels is to have a travel agent you can trust. This is because you have no idea of all the rules and regulations that are going to come up during your world tours. Having an agent that you trust is a great source of stress reduction. This is because you do not have to worry about all the little details and the infinite amount of paperwork and changes that come up. A good travel agent can advise of things like your passports, visas, shots and immunizations, as well as providing tips on local customs and culture so that you can fit in more easily when you arrive.

This is because you do not have to worry about all the little details and the infinite amount of paperwork and changes that come up. A good travel agent can advise of things like your passports, visas, shots and immunizations, as well as providing tips on local customs and culture so that you can fit in more easily when you arrive.

There are a number of travel sites out there and the most popular ones deal with getting you the cheapest flights and hotels. This is great and wonderful for what they do and they are good at it. They however will not make sure that all the little details are taken care of or provide the personal touch that other sites and agencies can. I have found that world-travel-tour.com is one of those sites that does a good job of keeping their eye on all the small details.

World travel these days can be a very scary thing filled with all kinds of stress because of the events in the news. A good agent is aware of all those things and will do everything to make sure that you are safe. Your world tour will be enjoyable and relaxing when you have the assistance of a knowledgeable agent. Here are some other things to consider while on your world tour.

Make sure you have your schedule set and that you did allow yourself some “me time” in all the hustle and bustle of the trip that is something that can be easily forgotten. Keep your schedule realistic, these tour spots have been there for thousands of years and they will be there when you get to come back. Make sure you have a list of your medications and doctors so that if something should happen you can get proper treatment.

Bring a good book to read since the flights are long and you will have plenty of time to read and sleep. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep before you head out on your flight. Even if your world travel is for business, schedule yourself some time for yourself to enjoy the new location you are in, instead of just trying to cram in back to back meetings and appointments. You will be able to enjoy being in the place you’re at for the meeting and be well rested and be able to work better in the end.

Relax and enjoy your world tour and find all the secrets the world has to offer. it will be a good start to finding what the secrets are. The secret after all is that this world travel stuff really does not have to be filled with stress and doubt. If you want that, then go to work, world travel is about stress free time for you.

Traveling has always been one of the most fun-filled, exciting, entertaining and most of the time informative activity that you can totally enjoy by yourself or with your family and friends. With the help on the internet you can easily find travel agents online that can assist you in getting affordable discount air travels or any other budget travel promos and travel packages that their online travel agency offers.

It doesn’t matter if you already have pre-arranged travel deals or just last minute travel arrangements because there are a lot of best travel websites to choose from that can accommodate your needs. As a traveler, you should also need to make preparations yourself and not purely rely on your travel agent. These are some basic travel tips for you to take into account to experience a hassle free travel and vacation.

As much as possible, plan your trip early. If you’re traveling during holidays, it is best to look for online travel deals at least a couple of months before the season starts. This way you can even have a chance to book under discount travel promos which travel agencies usually offer in advance.

Another good tip is to maximize your budget. Make a list of your proposed budget in advance and try to follow your budget list at least up to the degree that you can. Make food your number priority followed by your lodging necessities. Take also into consideration the age bracket of your group. If you’re going to travel with kids, their needs and safety should be on the top list of priorities.

Next of the travel tips you need to take into account is to familiarize yourself with your travel destinations. If you still don’t have a place in mind you can easily choose from the top ten travel destinations online. If you and your company want to have a beach get-away then you might want to check websites about the famous and wonderful South Miami Beach or the magnificent coast of Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. If your budget and time permits it, you can even try checking out the wonders of Asian beaches like the renowned Boracay in the Philippines. Ultimately, wherever you plan to go, you must have an overview of the place and its surroundings to avoid difficulties and disturbances.

Another important tip, and a very sound advice, is to take care of your belongings. You read this tip online, see the sign at every airport and subconsciously know that this is significant, however, with all the fuss there is during travel plus the excitement you feel, there will be moments that your belongings will slip into your mind. And this moment of yours becomes the shining time for thieves to take advantage and stole your possessions.

And aside from your budget list, make one checklist that enumerates everything you need to do and to accomplish before, during and after your vacation. You may be teased by your family and friends as having an obsessive-compulsive disorder but shrugged it off. Remember, being prepared is a lot better that being sorry.

Do you love to travel and travel often? If so, you may want to check out the benefits of a travel club membership. You will find that there are many benefits and rewards to being a member of a travel club, and we are going to share them with you. Traveling has become expensive, however it is something that many still plan to do and do often. So why not look into the clubs that are for traveling to find ways to cut your cost and still be able to travel as much as you would like to.

They are Affordable

Travel club memberships are affordable. This is a huge benefit of being a member of one. Think about it this way, you want to travel, you love to travel, and you plan on traveling. Right? Well, why not invest money into a member ship that is all about traveling and be rewarded for it? The amount of money that you pay for such a membership does vary and really depends on where you go and the amount that you intend to travel. Nevertheless, they are really affordable and help the cost of traveling not hurt your pocketbook quite so much.

You Can Travel Anywhere That You Want

One of the biggest myths that you will hear about a travel club membership is that you can only travel to certain places in order to reap the rewards. Well, this is just not true. Not with all, travel memberships anyways. You will find that there are many memberships out there that will allow you to travel to your favorite destinations whether for business or pleasure and still be rewarded for it and be able to have all of the perks that you thought were not possible. So the next time you hear that you cannot travel anywhere you want to go with a membership, tell them that you know better than that.

They Offer Rewards

So many travel club memberships that you will find offer rewards for traveling. The more you travel, the more you get to travel for hardly anything. You can be rewarded by free trips, or even majorly discounted trips that you will love. Many times these rewards can be to luxurious places and vacations that you never thought were possible. Yes, they are possible. If you are going to travel anyways, you might as well be rewarded for it.

After 20 years of searching for the right home based opportunity and trying many types of businesses – she finally found success with Coastal Vacations. She’s worked at home now full time for years and loves the money and the freedom. She understands that her success is due to serveal facts. First, that Coastal Vacations has a good product with real value and it’s Travel…which is something people really want. It’s a well established business with a solid 14 year track record. The business model has a high profit margin. It’s not an MLM and… what’s extremely important is that there is a proven marketing system in place the anyone can use and the training and support is second to none.

I fly a lot and am considered a heavyweight among people who claim to know corporate travel. I have flown so much that I have received Christmas gifts from the major airlines. One time when I was taking a couple of months off and trying to stay home more I actually received calls from the airlines asking where I was and if everything was alright. That is too much. That is too much because of the wear and tear it places on your body and family life but also because of the dent it places in your wallet.

I have found a way to fix all of that, at least the expense part anyway.

I received a phone call from a man asking if he could have the honor of booking my next set of travel arrangements for me. During a short interview he asked me where I typically went, how often I traveled, where I liked to sit on airplanes, which airlines I preferred, how much I was typically spending per flight to different locations, what type of accommodations the hotels I stayed in needed to have for me to be happy, what size and type of rental cars I preferred, all about my frequent traveler programs and away he went. I did not think another thing about it.

Within a few days I had a need to book a trip. I sent a quick e-mail to him letting him know the specifics about the trip and gave him a few hours to go to work. In the meantime I also went to work to check out what I would be able to book on my own. After spending about 45 minutes of my time I had a held itinerary for a flight, rental car and hotel room. The reservations were made all with my regular frequent flier and member numbers and all discounts were applied. The total trip was going to cost $1,620.00 over 3 days for air fare, rental car and a hotel stay.

I received an e-mail a couple of hours later telling me that I could save $200 off of my flight if I would be willing to make one-stop (I wasn’t), $30 a day off my rental car if I would use a different company (I would gladly for a $90 savings) and that a better grade of hotel would cost me $69 per night and not $199 per night (a savings of $130 per night and $420 for the trip). I fell in love with this guy who had called me out of the blue a week ago. He had just saved me $510.

Our company has a great departmental profit sharing plan that rewards our team of sales people for the margin that we bring in. Travel has been a sore spot for the corporation and the department as the expenses have gone up for travel and we have struggled with ways to cut back. We sell a service that is difficult to sell over the phone, typically requiring a couple of multiple day visits on-site to get a new project started. My next call was to our corporate team to let them know about how we can all save money on our corporate travel. Many thanks to the man who made the cold call.

With airline travel increasing in record numbers, more people are experiencing the frustration of understanding the airlines industry language, and leaving them feeling that they need an interpreter for the travel information they`re receiving from the airline industry! It seems that air companies think that every individual that flies should have to understand all that travel Jargon they place on their flight reservations, and maybe it`s about time we figure out what they`re talking about, because it`s costing you money and valuable time!

Once you learn all the airlines travel terms, you won`t be dependent on your local travel agent anymore, and he/she won`t be able to collect all the wonderful service fees from you for being your traveling interpreter.

The price of your travel flight is based on many intricate components that the airlines reservations department implement, not to purposely confuse you, but to formulate their airfares and determine what they need to charge each passenger for all flights taken.

Now if you already know most of these airlines flight terms, then that`s ok. However, there are many people that are new to traveling, and are now beginning to use online air suppliers to capitalize on the great deals they offer. But when you`re making that reservation, you want to understand why the flight you selected is so cheap, and what are the reasons for the low pricing.

Misunderstanding in Airline Terms can cost you more money!

Most of the airlines service terms you will come across will play a big factor on whether you pay an expensive price for you ticket, or getting the discounted travel deals you`re looking for in the first place. I will explain the most common industry terms that many people get confused about:

Nonstop versus Direct or Through Service: Don`t get this one confused, because many airline companies don`t explain this properly. Nonstop means exactly that, and most travelers want these flights, so they book-up quickly. You fly from your origin and land at your desired destination without any stops in between.

Direct or Through Service: This can get a little confusing to many individuals. The aircraft even though is en route directly to your destination, it may be making some routine stops on the way, and all passengers must remain on the plane at that time. There are many times when you print your ticket that it will not list the cities that it will be landing in, so it is always wise to investigate a little further, and see how long the stop is going to be in each individual city.

Connecting Flight: When you`re on this type of service flight, now this is treated differently than the other services above. With this type of flight the plane travels from one city to another, however, the passengers must change aircrafts at some point between the origin city and the destination city.

On-line Connections: This is when you change an aircraft but continue to fly with the same carrier. So if you`re flying form Los Angeles to New York on American Airlines. If you make a stop for example in Denver, you will change planes at that airport, but with the same American Airline carrier.

Interline Connection: This is when you as a passenger changes airplanes, but instead of boarding the same company plane you will be on a different airline. For this example, you`re flying from Seattle, Washington en route to San Antonio, Texas. If you were on a United flight, you will have a stop in a city in-between your origin and destination, and let say you have to get on an American carrier to continue your journey. The main reason for this is that the particular airline company may not be flying into certain cities due to particular business reasons, so then they share with competing airline business companies.

Open Jaw: No it`s not when you see the price of your ticket and your jaw drops. This trip is one in which you depart out of one city, and later return from another city. For example: you fly from San Diego, California to New York City, and then return back home from the city of Boston back to San Diego. This can dramatically increase your airline ticket, so if you`re looking to visit a family member in another city that you arrived in, and then depart out of another city where your families live, then carefully check and make sure you understand this term.

Consolidators: A consolidator can be your friend if you understand how they work. Simply put, they purchase tickets from an airline at a rate less than the tariff, with the intention of reselling the tickets to either you the public or travel agencies. They buy tickets in bulk from air carrier companies, and therefore offer substantial savings. If you happen to be wondering what a tariff is, it`s basically set pricing, rules, and regulations all put in place by authorized organizations in the airline industry.

Let`s talk types of Fares! If you`re searching for fares online, you will come across a list of different terminologies for your ticket, and it will reflect on the price you end up paying. The airlines distinguish certain fare prices by the terms normal or restricted.

Normal Fares: A normal fare is first class, business class, and economy. These have no restrictions such as advanced reservation requirements or minimum stay stipulations. Such flights are valid for one year from the date of the first flight and can be extended if not used within that period.

Restricted Excursion and Discounted Fares: These have certain restrictions, and that is why they are cheaper to purchase. They`re sold with a number of conditions attached, which most require advanced reservations, and there is normally a minimum and sometimes a maximum stay requirement. Travel dates are pre-determined, and any changes in most cases are subject to a penalty, or at times you can`t make any changes at all! Airlines limit the number of seats at these fares to encourage travelers to book early.

With an understanding how the air travel industry communicates, and how they determine a flight schedule and pricing, you will eventually be able to speak their language, prevent air lingo confusion, and obtain the best flight itinerary and price with this new knowledge!

If you are travelling to a specific place or at a specific time, it is most useful if you get a reservation before hand! In fact, the best way to plan your trip is to look to see who offers the best package, or who has cheap reservations without any hassle!

When planning your vacation, there are many things that you can do to make sure that you get where you want to go or what you want for a cheaper price! In fact, the first thing that you can do is plan your vacation during the off season. During the off peak seasons, the hotels, car rentals, as well as many airlines offer much cheaper prices and tickets. In fact, some of them are up to 50% cheaper! Also, some hotels give discounts to people that are senior citizens, honeymooners, military personnel, or even students.

Another thing you can do is stay at hotels/motels where kids are free! If you are a family with 2 or 3 kids, that could save you a lot of money! Also, if you are not very picky about the location of the hotel, you may use name your price websites to find cheaper hotels; such as Price-Line or Travelocity. Other wise if you may rent a car if you are staying at a distant hotel. Also, many times hotels will give you a “free night” for staying there for a certain amount of time! Another possibility is staying at a hotel that is a little distance away that is cheaper rather than in the middle the attractions; it is a great way to save money!

When renting a room, you will want to make sure that you are not paying for any unwanted surcharges or extra fees that weren’t mentioned. Before you reserve your room, you will want to ask about those as well as keeping an eye out at check out time!

Many times people will also turn in their frequent flyer miles for hotels or car rentals, as well! You may want to see which hotels except the flyer miles! Also, many hotels are now providing free service rides to and from the airport; therefore, you may want to see which ones offer that service so you can save money!

If you are planning a vacation and do not want to go during off season, then it would be best to do some looking around first! Also, it is possible to find some reasonable rates during the weekend; all you have to do is look and plan ahead! Also, it is equally important to always remember to get your confirmation numbers!!

So how can you keep those young children amused and well behaved for those long and short flights? First off, keep your expectations realistic when traveling by plane. No one has a perfect child who is always well behaved. But there are ways to help minimize boredom and fussiness when it comes to your child. Here are some tips to make those plane rides a little easier.

Schedule your flight times to coincide with your child’s normal sleeping schedule (in other words, the red-eye).

Tell your children what to expect, what you expect of them and to respect the other people. Let them know that they can’t yell on the plane or kick the backs of other passenger’s seats. Explain security procedures, customs and immigration, take-off and landing, baggage claim and claim checks, and so on.

Make sure older children know the basics of safety such as not wandering off alone or talking to strangers in the airport. Make sure they know their first and last name, parent’s name, phone numbers and address. For smaller children you can write their name on the inside of all their clothes with or sew in a name label. This will help if they get lost and forget their last name.

Allow yourself plenty of time at the airport so you are not rushed. The stress of rushing through the airport may be carried onto the plane as well by both parents and children.

Non-stop flights are not always the best idea with children especially long ones. An hour or so break in an airport in the middle of a long journey can actually be a good idea.

Pack coloring books and pens, books to read and to be read to, cards, dolls, stickers, toys, and stuffed animals. Segregate them into sealable plastic bags and only allow one activity at a time per child.

Avoid any toys that make noise, Play-doh or anything sticky, balls and other round objects, Legos and other toys made up of little bitty objects and board games with small pieces.

Keep your kids well fed so they don’t get cranky. Many adults frown upon airline food so you can only imagine how your picky child might react to it. Bring your own supplies of sandwiches, fruit, and snacks in sealable plastic bags.

Bring along a pillow, small blanket and favorite stuffed toy. If your child is comfortable they will be more likely to take a nap and sometimes airplanes can be cold.

Make sure you have what you need for emergencies and problems. Some good things to consider are a sick bag, anti-nausea medications, gum, earache medication, change of clothes, and teething gel and diapers depending on the age of your child.

Most airlines will allow car seats on the plane. It’s safer for your child and will make them feel like the place is comfortable and familiar even though it’s foreign.

If all else fails and your child is still unruly just hope that there are other children on board who are worse!

Consumer advice as to why the insurance policies offered at the car hire desk can be worth taking when travelling in foreign countries.

The car hire desk can be one of the most confusing and laborious elements when on holiday. The sheer range of considerations and optional extras offered often leaves the consumer befuddled. While it may be easier to simply switch off and get to the car as quickly as possible there are a number of additions to the car hire agreement that should be considered. Of particular importance are the extra insurance options that are available from the rental firm, in some cases the penalties and excess charges can be astronomical hence having cover is extremely useful.

Some car hire firms can charge excess at around a thousand pounds if the rental vehicle is involved in an accident. Travellers may be especially scared of such charges but it is important not to be bullied into taking such extras, it is often worth checking existing motor insurance policies and the cover provided by a credit card before purchasing more insurance. If this cover is inadequate however, it is often advisable to take the rental firms cover, after all, no one can predict the future and having cover for unforeseen circumstances will help travellers to relax and enjoy their holidays.

Typically the best type of cover to obtain is the damage waiver. In most cases this will cover the customer should the vehicle become damaged in any way, for instance in an accident or whilst parked. While in some cases an excess will still be applied, with the waiver this excess will be considerably less. It is always advisable though to make a detailed check of the hire car before leaving the rental depot, even with a damage waiver it is important to let the company know of any damage to the car before departure, by doing this the chances of being charged for damage are negated.

In many countries across Europe and in the United States it is often essential to take some form of personal accident insurance when hiring a vehicle. These countries rarely have a nationalised health service and hence any medical treatments will result in charges. This form of insurance does not always have to be purchased from the rental desk, most travellers will have some form of private medical insurance, although it is usually advisable to check whether this will cover accidents and injuries abroad, if it does not, the hire desk is probably the best solution.

In addition to the damage waiver and accident insurance it is usually worthwhile taking some form of belongings cover. Typically if this obtained from the car hire company this will cover theft of belongings from the vehicle; as the loss of items such as passports and plane tickets can be extremely costly, especially when it comes to replacing such items, having cover for this situation is essential.

Hopefully this article has put forward some of the different types of insurance that are available from the car hire desk. While it is in no way a comprehensive list, it does give some idea of the importance of insurance cover whilst travelling. Without cover, unforeseen circumstances can easily ruin a holiday, with cover; even the most disastrous of events can be put into perspective, allowing the traveller to salvage some semblance of enjoyment from their trip. So before jumping straight into the hire car, consider the insurance packages on offer and assess whether it will be foolhardy to leave the rental depot without effective cover.
