When leaving your homeland for a length of time, organise travel insurance for yourself and your family. This may help to put it into perspective: when you’re at home, you can probably rest easy knowing that you have house and contents insurance, medical insurance, vehicle insurance and possibly even life insurance but as soon as you remove yourself from your comfort zone and cross the border, you need to be away that these insurances are often no longer able to cover you. Having travel insurance while you’re away is just like having the same security you have at home, simple as that.
